The Things that You Need to Be Aware of When Picking a Web Host

We always get attracted by the words ‘cheap’ ‘affordable’ and ‘free. Those terms by themselves are not bad at all. We want to get a hold of things that are absolutely free of charge from time to time. However, you do not want to do that if you are looking for a reliable web hosting provider.

You see, for a time, we always think about free services as blessings. But, in the case of free web hosting, that can actually do more harm than good.

In today’s article, I will go over the things that you need to be aware of when picking a web host for your website.

Never Be Tempted

There are people that want to build their own websites and that is actually okay. What is not okay is that they indulge in free web hosting services and think that they are actually not paying for anything, but that is actually not the case.

Sure, you do not pay an upfront cost when you get a hold of their services, but since they need money for server upkeep, you can expect that they will do things that will help generate some revenue in one way or another.

Most of the time, free web hosting providers would usually post ads on your website and the bad thing about this is that you have no control over which ads are posted on your page. This is not like Google Adsense where the ads posted are relevant to the content that you put on your website.

This can severely hurt your reputation. For instance, if you plan on putting up an online store and you mainly sell bags and clothes, the web host might post ads about sex toys or other unrelated content. That can surely happen and when it does, your reputation will go down the drain as a result.

Although they tout themselves as ‘free’ web hosting providers, their services they provide are actually not given to you for free.

Cheap is Okay

The web hosting industry is quite a competitive one and for companies to gain as many customers as they want, they would provide you with the same services offered at competitive prices.

Do not mistake ‘cheap’ for ‘affordable’ because they are quite different. You see, the cheapest hosting plan is something that you want to avoid simply because they are cheap for a reason. You are better of getting an affordable hosting plan that is still within your budget, but provides vastly improved services across the board.

Always Think About the Performance

When you are getting a web host, always think about the performance. Speed is an important consideration, especially since Google has deemed it as one of the main ranking factors in terms of search engine optimization.

You also want to go with a web host that provides scalable services. For instance, if you’ve built up quite a reputation online and a lot of people now go to your website, you may need additional bandwidth to cover the massive influx of people that are going to your platform.
